Decorating your Wedding

Photo:

Your decoration budget doesn’t have to go into overdrive for you to create some enchanting wedding day magic. Colours, lighting, fabrics, flowers and other accessories can work together to create a breathtaking scene. Use your imagination and the results will be simply sensational. You may be feeling slightly overawed by the prospect of choosing your wedding decorations, or you may be brimming with great ideas. Either way, once the date is set, and the venue has been selected, it’s time to get busy.

A professional event design company can help you realise your vision, or inspire you with some innovative concepts. Discuss your ideas with them, let them know your budget, and find out exactly what aspects of your big day (lights, centrepieces, chair covers, table cloths, props etc) they can co-ordinate. Ask to see photographs of their previous work, or better still, if they’re working on a soon-to-be-held function, ask whether you can drop in to take a look.

Whether you want to go big on balloons or celebrate with candles, if you feel confident that you and your prospective event designers are on the same wavelength, ask for an itemised quote. They may charge for travel as well as the time spent setting up and collecting the decorations at the end of the event. If so, you need to be aware of these factors before you sign the contract.

If you are marrying in a church, remember that several weddings might take place that day. So if you want to deck the church out in keeping with your wedding theme, your decorations will need to be easy to put in place and to remove.

It will be at your reception that you’ll have the chance to really make your mark. Whether you opt for a classically simple all white wedding, or a Victorian extravaganza, your task will be to ensure that every last detail is perfect.

If you have decided to arrange the decorations yourself, there are any number of specialty shops that can not only assist you with the accessories you need, they also have qualified and experienced staff to offer you assistance, and advise you on quantities and prices. You may even find that your original ideas undergo some radical changes after talking to the experts! The appearance of any venue can be completely changed with the clever use of table linen, chair covers, lighting (either by candle or dramatically placed ceiling lights) and vases of fresh flowers.

Ice sculptures can also be an attractive addition. Hearts, doves, swans and cherubs - the options are endless. Ice sculptures play a functional as well as decorative role when they are used to help maintain the temperature of cold buffet food.

Wedding decorations can run from simply stylish to sumptuously ornate – it’s up to you. With carefully chosen colours, accessories and table settings, you will create an event your guests will long remember.
